I first began attending births 7 years ago, and since then have learnt time and time again that pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period has the potential to be the most empowering, life changing and transformative time in someone's life. I now have two children of my own and have been practicing with Rātā Midwives for almost 5 years, with a focus on home birth and primary unit birth.

I love & strongly support home/primary birth - as the evidence shows this is safe and empowering for well people, avoiding unnecessary interventions. I only support birth at Christchurch Women's when medically indicated. We at Rātā all share this same philosophy as we know this empowers birthers and supports healthy outcomes. I work closely with my backup Kaz Kavanagh, using a shared care model. We work alongside whānau to guide them through pregnancy, labour, birth and the initial postnatal period. As LMC midwives we would then arrange regular appointments for check-ins and be on call for any urgent matters including labour/birth cares. We also encourage you read our backup midwives profiles as they may step in if we are busy/sick/sleeping after being up overnight. Our clinics are Monday mornings at Kurawaka Waipapa. And Thursday mornings at Te Ara Sophia - 275 Fifield Terrace. We cannot facilitate routine appointments outside of these times Rātā is a brilliant team of like-minded midwives who share the same philosophy and passion as myself, providing care until 4-6 weeks postpartum.
