Rachael Thomas

Congrats! I am deeply passionate about midwifery and supporting women to reach their expectations and aspirations during antenatal, labour, birth and postnatal periods. I am grounded in a belief that birth is a normal physiological event, and that this should be an intuitive and empowering experience for women and their whānau. I endeavour to take an organic, holistic, approach to midwifery care and acknowledge each woman’s cultural, spiritual and emotional needs. I advocate for informed decision making and consent and feel that positive outcomes can be achieved through shared knowledge, mutual respect and equality within the midwifery partnership. I am a mum of two sons. I take a small caseload of women which enables me to balance providing exceptional midwifery care, and also cheering my boys on from the sidelines. I am supported by my wonderful midwifery partner, Kirstin Rouse, who practises with a similar philosophy and provides midwifery care when I am off-call.
